ART CONTEST FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS (ONLY)

CONTEST LOCATION: Alzheimer's Resource Center of Connecticut,
1261 South Main Street (Route 10), Southington, CT.
CONTEST DATE: Saturday, March 14, 2008 thru Sunday, March 16 , 2008
CATEGORIES:
* Paintings - Oil, Acrylics, Pastels, Watercolors, mixed media
* Drawings - Ink, Charcoal, Pencil, Marker, Pen and Me
* Graphic
* Photography-Black and white or color
* Sculpture
Prize money will be given for one Best in Show and
First, Second, Third, and Honorable Mention for each of the other mediums
RULES:
* Only one entry per senior student in each category.
* Only original work accepted.
* Minimum Dimensions all media except photography: 12 x 14 inches. (excluding
frame or mat)
* Maximum Dimensions all media except photography: 20 x 30 inches.(excluding
frame or mat)
* Photography, minimum dimensions: 8 x 10 inches.(excluding frame or mat)
* Photography, maximum dimensions: 12 x 16 inches.(excluding frame or mat)
Two entry cards must be prepared by the student submitting an entry;
one attached to the article, the other turned in at registration.
Each person delivering an article will also sign a card. This card must be
presented at the time of pickup for release of the article.
ARTWORK WILL BE PICKED UP FROM SCHOOL BY GFWC/CT CLUB CHAIRMAN, BEFORE FRIDAY
MARCH14, 008 TO BE DELIVERED TO THE ALZHEIMER'S RESOURCE CENTER .
JUDGING WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY. THERE WILL BE A RECEPTION AND PUBLIC
VIEWING OF THE ART WORK ON SUNDAY FROM 1:00 PM TO 4:00 PM. WE ENCOURAGE
STUDENTS, FAMILY AND TEACHERS TO ATTEND. IN THE PAST, IT HAS BEEN QUITE
IMPRESSIVE AND WELL ATTENDED
The General Federation of Women's Clubs of Connecticut and its officers and
members
assume no responsibility for loss or damage to any entry in the Art Contest for
High
School Seniors. It is intended that the entries be handled in a careful and
reasonably
prudent manner.
ACTION PLAN (SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS):
1. Reach every high school in the local area. Clubs may sponsor more than
one school and may sponsor schools in towns which have no club.
Clubs in the same town may co-sponsor schools.
2. Maintain contact with schools.
3. Arrange pick-up of artwork one week prior to the contest.
4. Send letter to students, their parents, and the school inviting them to the
reception. Be sure to include directions. The Alzheimers Resource Center
is on Route 10 in the Milldale section of Southington at Exit 29 of I-84.
5. Insure safe pick-up of the art following the contest.
6. Send thank you letter to the schools.
(CLUB MEMBERS):
1. Write article for Club Newsletter explaining the program.
2. Designate February as "PENNIES FOR ART MONTH".
3. Hold contest for best decorated "container" for money collected.
4. Send contribution to State Treasurer with notation, "PENNIES FOR
ART".
5. Encourage ALL CLUB MEMBERS to ATTEND and tour the
exhibit from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on SUNDAY
6. Be sure to notify news media of the names of student winners,
