RE: June 23, 2005 United States Supreme Court Decision Regarding Eminent Domain 

Dear Sir or Madam: 

The United States Supreme Court Decision expanding the use of eminent domain to acquire privately owned properties for purposes of economic development to be owned and/or controlled by another private entity is clearly not what our forefathers intended. This decision opens the door to many abuses and puts the private landowner at a serious disadvantage putting his ownership of property in jeopardy. 

The taking of private land, including private land that is abandoned or blighted, for public use, such as highways, etc. is not contested; however, the objection lies in the taking of private land to be used in any project to be privately owned or controlled, or simply to raise a municipalities’ tax base. 

As a constituent in your district, I hereby request that you initiate and, or, support any legislation that will protect the rights of the individual property owners in Connecticut and overshadow the poor decision handed down by the United States Supreme Court.
