Public Policy:
Avenue for YOUR CLUB to zero in on a community need.
Or
use this as an avenue to work to assure success, at the time to their
administration, for the State Project. Remember how all used the
legislature to win success for the Search and Rescue project of Jean
Brown's administration.
And don't forget the Trucks on the roads as you travel. This is an
ongoing need for consideration.
Resolution process and public policy as a GFWC clubwoman.
Once a Resolution is 'on the books', GFWC members are able to advocate on the issue as member of GFWC.
Regarding Eminent Domain, there currently is no new legislation in the 11Oth Congress on the issues. In the previous Congress, many bills were introduced regarding issues of compensation, tax relief and federal funds available to states. Eminent domain is an issue that varies widely from state to state in it's use and abuse. It can be anticipated that on a federal level new bills will be introduced in the new Congress regarding the issue.
GFWC's role in this issue is to support, through advocacy on a grassroots level, efforts and legislation in accordance to the Resolution. We do track national legislation on this issue and federal cases that would influence use of eminent domain. Encourage members to address eminent domain within your community. Write to your local representatives to inform them of where you, as a GFWC clubwoman, stand on the issues. Perhaps bring eminent domain into a discussion at a club meeting. Consider a letter writing or calling campaign to local offices. Ask for a firm stance from your government officials on where they stand in support of eminent domain.
As new legislation is introduced in the upcoming months of the 11Oth Congress, GFWC will continue to monitor proceedings and alert membership to issues of importance. If you have further questions, please feel free to send me an email at any time.
